How to Inflate and Pack Your Sleeping Mat

How to inflate and pack your sleep mat.

Inflating, deflating, and storing your sleep mat with care is vital to keep it in optimal condition, and ensure it doesn’t let you down when you need it most.

Our handy tips and tricks are here to help you get the most out of your sleep mat for many adventures to come.

How to inflate an air mat.

For our air mats, make sure you use the included inflation sack to blow up your mat. Using the inflation sack will reduce the buildup of moisture in your mat and keep it performing at its best for longer. Avoid blowing into the mat with your mouth, as this can create a suitable atmosphere for mould spores to develop and can reduce the thermal properties of the mat.

  1. Attach the inflation sack valve to the mat valve. Open the top of the inflation sack to capture as much air as possible. Roll the top over a few times or pinch it.

  2. Press down firmly to force the air into the mat. To add stability when inflating, you can place your foot through the loop on the bottom of the sack.

  3. Do this until your mat has reached your preferred firmness. Then close the one-way valve.

  4. For minor adjustments, you can release air by pressing the centre of the open valve.

How to inflate a self-inflating mat.

Inflating our self-inflating sleep mats is as simple as it sounds: simply open the valve fully and allow it to self-inflate.

  1. Leave your mat while you set up a camp and the X-Core™ foam inside the mat will start to expand all on its own.

  2. Once it’s almost fully inflated, top up to the desired firmness by adding air through the one-way valve.

  3. For minor adjustments, you can release air by pressing in the centre of the open valve.

How to deflate your sleep mat.

To deflate both our self-inflating and air mats, simply lay your mat down with the valve pointing up.

  1. Open the valve fully to let the air escape.

  2. Start to fold and roll your mat from the bottom. This forces the air out of the valve and, in the case of our self-inflating mats, stops the mat from drawing air back in.

  3. Close the valve and then unroll and fold it a final time to get the pack size as small as possible.

  4. Continue to roll and fold the mat until it’s the right dimensions to go back in its storage sack.

How to store your sleep mat.

When it’s between adventures, keep your sleep mat in a clean, cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

We recommend storing it flat with the valve open, as this helps to prevent any moisture from being trapped inside and allowing mould to develop. Avoid storing a foam mat in its stuff sack for long periods, as this compresses the foam filling and can reduce its thermal properties.
