How to Repair Your Sleeping Pad | Puncture Repair

How to repair a sleep pad.

If you've been unlucky enough to puncture your inflatable sleep pad, we've got you covered. Here we show you how to identify and repair a puncture in your sleeping mat, whether you’re at home or out on the mountain.Ā

You’ll need a sleep pad repair patch, so make sure you stock up before you go.Ā

Step 1: Find the leak.Ā

  • Fully inflate your sleep pad.Ā

  • If you can hear air escaping, look for the hole.Ā

  • If you can't hear air escaping, try submerging the mat in water.Ā

  • Look for bubbles – these will show you where the air is escaping.Ā

  • If the leak is a tiny pinhole, you may need to increase the pressure of the mat by folding it. This will help you find the hole more easily.Ā

  • Check every section of the pad in case there is more than one leak.Ā

Step 2: Mark the leak.Ā

  • Once you've found the leak, mark it with a piece of tape or a marker.Ā

Step 3: Clean the area.Ā

  • Use a clean cloth to wipe away any dirt or debris from the area around the leak.Ā

  • Make sure the area is dry before applying the patch.Ā

Step 4: Apply the patch.Ā

  • Follow the instructions that came with your patch kit.Ā

  • Make sure the patch is applied evenly and that there are no air bubbles under it.Ā

Step 5: Inflate the pad.Ā

  • Once the patch is applied, inflate the pad to its full size.Ā

  • Let the mat sit for an hour to make sure the patch has time to dry.Ā

  • Check for leaks.Ā
