How to Inflate and Pack Your Sleeping Pad

How to inflate and pack your sleep pad.

Inflating, deflating, and storing your sleep pad with care is vital to keep it in optimal condition, and ensure it doesn’t let you down when you need it most.Ā

Our handy tips and tricks are here to help you get the most out of your sleep pad for many adventures to come.Ā

How to inflate an air pad.

For our air pads, make sure you use the included inflation sack to blow up your mat. Using the inflation sack will reduce the buildup of moisture in your pad and keep it performing at its best for longer. Avoid blowing into the mat with your mouth, as this can create a suitable atmosphere for mould spores to develop and can reduce the thermal properties of the pad.Ā Ā

  1. Attach the inflation sack valve to the pad valve. Open the top of the inflation sack to capture as much air as possible. Roll the top over a few times or pinch it.Ā

  2. Press down firmly to force the air into the mat. To add stability when inflating, you can place your foot through the loop on the bottom of the sack.Ā

  3. Do this until your pad has reached your preferred firmness. Then close the one-way valve.Ā

  4. For minor adjustments, you can release air by pressing the centre of the open valve.

How to inflate a self-inflating pad.

Inflating our self-inflating sleep pads is as simple as it sounds: simply open the valve fully and allow it to self-inflate.Ā

  1. Leave your pad while you set up a camp and the X-Coreā„¢ foam inside the mat will start to expand all on its own.Ā

  2. Once it’s almost fully inflated, top up to the desired firmness by adding air through the one-way valve.Ā Ā

  3. For minor adjustments, you can release air by pressing in the centre of the open valve.Ā

How to deflate your sleep pad.

To deflate both our self-inflating and air pads, simply lay your pad down with the valve pointing up.Ā Ā

  1. Open the valve fully to let the air escape.Ā Ā

  2. Start to fold and roll your pad from the bottom. This forces the air out of the valve and, in the case of our self-inflating pads, stops the pad from drawing air back in.Ā

  3. Close the valve and then unroll and fold it a final time to get the pack size as small as possible.Ā Ā

  4. 5. Continue to roll and fold the pad until it’s the right dimensions to go back in its storage sack.

How to store your sleep pad.

When it’s between adventures, keep your sleep pad in a clean, cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

We recommend storing it flat with the valve open, as this helps to prevent any moisture from being trapped inside and allowing mould to develop. Avoid storing a foam pad in its stuff sack for long periods, as this compresses the foam filling and can reduce its thermal properties.Ā
