How to Store Your Sleeping Bag | Sleeping Bag Care
How to store your sleeping bag.
Storing your sleeping bag properly is essential to making it last as long as possible, whether thatās packing it into a stuff sack while youāre out on a multi-day adventure, or finding a suitable place to store it once you return home. Here, we share our tips and tricks for getting the most out of your sleeping bag.Ā
Packing your sleeping bag.
When youāre on the move, the best way to pack your sleeping bag is into its dedicated stuff sack.Ā
Start by grabbing the bottom of the sleeping bag. Starting from the bottom will ensure that any air that's trapped inside the bag manages to escape out of the top.Ā
Continue to grab a handful at a time and stuff it into its sack. Placing the stuff sack between your feet can help with this. With each handful, give a turn of the sack to ensure you stuff evenly.Ā
Continue until all of your sleeping bag is in its stuff sack.Ā
Tighten the top cord or roll down the dry sack and secure any compression straps (if it has them).Ā

Stuff sacks are a great way to carry a sleeping bag, but not ideal for storing them at home. Prolonged compression can damage the down in your sleeping bag.Ā Ā Instead, you can either keep your sleeping bag in a larger storage sack that allows it to stay lofted, or hang it up.Ā
Always make sure you dry and air out your sleeping bag after you get back from a trip to ensure that no moisture remains in the bag. Use a breathable storage sack, never a plastic bag or dry bag, as any moisture that becomes trapped can cause mould to grow.Ā
If you've got a storage space, hanging your sleeping bag up over a hanger means it keeps its loft and is easy to transfer to its stuff sack for your next adventure.Ā
