Equally at home in the laboratory or on the sharp end, Tyler splits his time between working as a geology researcher at Dartmouth College and guiding rock and ice climbing around the states.

Tyler started climbing on his own during high school in Northwestern Pennsylvania. He and his climbing partner would get out of school and drive an hour south to the nearest cliffs and boulders to cut their teeth and make it through the learning curve alive.

In college, he ran cross country and track, and over the recent years has put his aerobic base to work pushing his limits on human-powered adventures in the mountains. Focusing on going light and fast, Tyler enjoys big days out in the mountains getting crushed.

Over the recent years, Tyler has spent his summers climbing and guiding on the perfect stone of the New River Gorge, West Virginia. Finding new lines and climbing old ones, he fell in love with the climbing and the community of quiet crushers in the “coolest small town” of Fayetteville, WV.

Winters became an escape from the summer heat of the southeast, and Tyler found himself trying to tick off every classic alpine rock and ice climb in the White Mountains of NH. “It’s easy to see how so many badass climbers and alpinists came from New England - the winter is bitter cold, the wind is full on, and the ice and mixed lines test your technical ability.”

Tyler is hungry to continue climbing to larger and larger mountains around the world. He continues to develop his skills on rock, ice and snow as he works toward becoming an American Mountain Guide.

Tyler enjoys:

  • Long multi pitch rock routes
  • Difficult sport climbs
  • Tenuous ice and mixed climbing
  • Ski mountaineering objectives
  • Mountain running with ample vert
