On Sunday 14th May a number of the team at Rab headed over to Hathersage for the annual Peak Mountaineering Peak District Pick and Play. Now into its fifth year, this fantastic event focuses on cleaning up the Peak District while also educating people on the importance of taking their litter home.

However, it’s not all hard work and no play! All attendees also had the opportunity to sign up for one of the many free outdoor activities put on throughout the day. Supported by qualified volunteers from The Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI), The Mountain Training Association (MTA), members of the Peak Park Conservation Volunteers and the Peak Park Ranger Service, there was something for everyone.

With goody bags, a raffle and plenty of cups of tea, it's no surprise that the event is growing in popularity year on year. 2017 was no exception, attracting over 100 participants ranging in age from 12 weeks old to 89 years young!

The day was spent clearing areas near Lawrencefield and Millstone as well as the roadside verges towards Fox House and a problem litter area near the Longshaw Estate. Working as a team, everyone quickly collected over 130kgs of rubbish in just 2.5 hours.

Alongside the litter collection children and adults alike were getting stuck into a whole host of activities. From climbing, orienteering, a guided Ranger walk, weaselling and even bushcraft.

Looking forward to next year the event is already scheduled to run on Sunday 13th May. Anyone keen to sign up should contact Peak Mountaineering via their website Contact Form here.
