  • Climb 2 Recovery Project Reaches New Heights in France

Following an unsuccessful attempt to summit the Matterhorn earlier this month (September 2016), the Climb 2 Recovery team have made their way from Switzerland to the climbing mecca of Chamonix, France. In the shadow of Mont Blanc, the team, organised by Steve Green and paraclimber Neil Heritage have worked with local guides to provide life-changing mountaineering experience to British Army veterans.

On Monday 19th September, Steve, along with fellow team members Ian Ross and Mark Jamespart, successfully summited Gran Paradiso (4061m) on the Italian side of the border. The three climbers, along with two local guides, set off at 05:30am, reaching the summit five and a half hours later after pushing on through some rough weather en route. In a significant moment for the group, they were able to fly the Endeavour Fund flag on the summit, marking the huge support the organisation has provided for the Climb 2 Recovery project.

The team aren’t stopping there though, and after his determined but ultimately unsuccessful attempt on the Matterhorn, Neil has turned his attention to the classic alpine route of the Cosmiques Arete. Perhaps France’s most famous alpine route, the line sees numerous ascents each year, but, like any alpine objective, it is not to be undertaken lightly. For Neil, a double above-the-knee amputee, it will mark a new high bar in his climbing career and we wish the whole team the best of luck for a successful ascent.
