The Rab® Torque Pants are possibly the stretchiest climbing trousers I’ve ever owned. I’ve been hammering them a lot over the past four weeks, putting them through their paces in a variety of conditions and locations. They have become my go to trouser when I’m looking for stretch and comfort, combined with being tough and robust. They are also really lightweight which is a great bonus!

I’ve been testing the Torques in the Gogarth South's Mousetrap Zawn, on the classic route 'Mantrap' (E3 5b). Getting in and out of Mousetrap Zawn involves a heady combination of vertical muddy moss, choss and sandy rock - ideal testing ground for any climbing kit really. I’ve also been using them guiding on classic routes at Tremadog; Merlin Direct (HVS) and Brothers with a direct E1 finish. These pictures though were taken on the classic Browns/Whillans route Cemetery Gates.

Although the Torque Pants are a fairly close fit on me, the uber stretch fabric means zero restriction of movement, which is exceptionally helpful given my almost total lack of flexibility - I need all the help I can get. This tighter cut also means they remain comfortable under waterproof trousers, without scrunching up.

The extra little details on these trousers are the selling points for me. Things like the low profile, bulk free waist means there is no harness interference and maximum comfort is provided. Secondly the fly zips from bottom to top, which makes going for a wee, while wearing a harness a complete piece of… well it’s easy.

The fabric is so water repellant that it’s tricky to dry your climbing rubber on it, but given that it was ‘drizzling hard’ and my legs stayed dry, this is a bit of weak complaint. I can't see the Torque’s wearing out any time soon either - but I'll sure give it a go!
