The leaves are falling and there’s a nip in the air, which can mean only one thing – it’s time for Kendal Mountain Festival 2018! A global gathering of outdoor enthusiasts celebrating mountain culture, rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s most accomplished adventures and explorers, there are plenty of films, talks and workshops to fuel your inspiration. As always we’ll be on at our stand in the Basecamp tent, so be sure to pay us a visit for a chance to meet our athletes, chat to our designers, and win awesome prizes.

This year we’re celebrating a decade of our iconic Microlight jacket, as well as the launch of the next generation in the Microlight Summit with our 10 Years On timeline competition. Reminisce about the last ten years or lay some plans for the future for your chance to win a whole host of exciting prizes. We might even have some special gifts if you turn up in your own Microlight (new or old!)…

Put your questions to Rab Team members Tom Randall, Emily ‘Scottie’ Scott, and Will Copestake in our Saturday morning Adventure Panel. Tom is one of the worlds most accomplished climbers with a penchant for demanding crack climbs, and makes up one half of the Wide Boyz duo. Emily from the British Adventure Collective comes to us hot off the heels of a four month, self-powered Munro round – climbing all 282 of Scotland 3000m+ peaks in one continuous effort. Will is a hardy Scotsman turned Patagonian kayak guide, who likes nothing better than hauling his trusty vessel through the wilderness in search of unseen glaciers.

Planning an adventure or expedition? Saturday afternoon is your chance to ask the experts. From training, acclimatisation and logistics through to how to entertain yourself at basecamp – alpinists Malcolm Bass, Paul Figg and Guy Buckingham are ready to answer your questions. Having recently made the first ascent of Janhukot, a 6,805m mountain buried deep in the heart of the Indian Garwhal Himalaya, they are keen to encourage others to attempt similar adventures and prove that with some sacrifice and training, ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

For the tech-obsessed, our Design team will be on hand through the weekend to answer all your gear questions. With decades of experience creating the world’s best outdoor clothing under their belts, they can offer the best advice on preparing for your next adventure.

We’re also delighted to have the chance to premiere two new adventure films:

Wide Boyz – All Tooled Up

Crack climbing partnership Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker, AKA The Wide Boyz, make a bold move swapping hand jams for ices axes. With little to no experience in Scottish winter climbing Pete and Tom recruit local legend, Kev Shields, before questing up the classic ice climbing challenge of ‘The Curtain’ on Ben Nevis.

Check out showing times for ‘Wide Boyz – All Tooled Up’ here.

Brazilian Line

A maverick bunch of Brits go big wall hunting in Brazil. Lead by pioneering legend Mike ‘Twid’ Turner accompanied by Steve Long, the pair take the opportunity to introduce some young blood inviting the super strong James Taylor and Angus Kille. The team head for the giant monolith of Pedra Baiana dreaming of a new line on perfect rock. From the outset, the plan begins to unravel with fuel blockages, wasp attacks, a shortage of equipment and time all pinning back progress in this spectacular, insightful and charming film.

Kendal Mountain Festival takes place from the 15th-18th of this month. For more information visit the Festival Website, see you there!
