There is growing global concern regarding the reports of forced labour and human rights violations being inflicted on millions of Uighur people in the Xinjiang region of northwestern China. Reports outline atrocities including torture, forced separation and the compulsory sterilisation of Uighur women.
We know that many global apparel brands source from Xinjiang. There are estimates that as many as one in five cotton products sold across the world are at risk of being associated with forced labour and human rights violations occurring in the region.
China produces about 22% of global cotton supplies and in 2019, 84% of Chinese cotton came from Xinjiang according to a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
We have taken active steps to ensure that none of the cotton sourced for Rab or Lowe Alpine apparel or equipment originates from the Xinjiang region of China. We have never knowingly sourced cotton products from this region.
