A Modern Classic

Kinder Smock

An icon is reimagined for Winter '17

Andy Cave in an early Kinder Smock on the North Face of The Ogre, Pakistan Karakoram, 1989.

First manufactured over 30 years ago, the Kinder Smock quickly became a favourite on the Sheffield climbing scene. Easily picked out against the dark Gritstone, its iconic shape meant it could be worn without interfering with a harness or belay device.

Paying homage to the much-loved original, the Kinder Smock is back, featuring improved fit, warmth and trims, without losing any of the durability, character and authenticity of the iconic original.

Key Features:

  • Pertex Classic Outer Fabric
  • Responsibly sourced 650FP European Hydrophobic Duck Down
  • Down filled high collar
  • Kangaroo patch pocket with tricot lining

"The Kinder Smock has become ‘de-rigeur’ among the climbing fraternity due to its technical cut for unrestricted movement, supreme functionality, lightweight and tiny pack size. Great for slipping on at belays, without interfering with harnesses, gear loops and belay devices."

Reimagining a Classic

The new Kinder Smock is true to the spirit of its predecessor - a perfect belay jacket, at home on the hills and crags of the UK and a sturdy all-rounder for the non-climber venturing out in colder conditions. The materials are modern, the cut sleeker, but at its heart this jacket is still rooted in 80's Sheffield.

@after_the_send "The nights got really cold and this Kinder Smock worked its magic making it possible to stay out, make the dinner in our outdoor kitchen and watch the stars!"
@flixelpix "I ventured up to document the #mourneskyline race with my favourite combo but thanks to #stormbrian I ended up in full waterproofs and the X-T2. Great to get back down and get the #kindersmock back on. #warm #wearerab"
@laura_scott "Trying to stay warm at the top of the col"
