When not working within the British Isles, Kristine can be found on expeditions. In the past these have included climbs in Nepal, Canada and Bolivia.

This is a warm, smart looking, lightweight fleece for all seasons and I would highly recommend it. Since receiving this hoody I have barely taken it off. Whether I’m climbing, hill walking, mountaineering, or simply enjoying a post-climb pint.

The Focus Hoody is classed in the more luxury end of Rab’s fleece range. For me this means that as well as being warm and comfortable in the hills, it also looks smart when worn on a casual outing.

The Merino fabric is knitted and combines the wicking and durability of polyester fibres with the odour resistant soft nature of the merino wool. It is breathable, and I find I am able to control my body temperature when hill walking.

Often a fear with Merino products is that they will not wash well, or that they may even shrink in the wash. I'm happy to report that I have washed The Focus many times and it still looks and feels as good as new. Even better, it has not bobbled like some wool products do.

I have barely taken it off. Whether I’m climbing, hill walking, mountaineering, or simply enjoying a post-climb pint.

Like the fit of many Rab products, its long arms, and in this case the thumb loops mean the sleeves can be pulled over your hands comfortably. Although sold as an under the helmet hood, I have found that it will also fit over a helmet and the high collar will zip up to provide that extra warmth, often needed on belays.

Often I have paired it up with the Lunar Jacket as a windproof. The combination of the two jackets has kept me warm on many belays. I've also found that with the Focus only weighing 364g it is the perfect lightweight fleece to carry as a spare layer in your pack for those warmer days.

I have found when climbing, the body of the fleece does not raise when you lift you arms. The stretchy fabric allows plenty of movement and it always feels comfortable. The pockets go to the bottom of the jacket, meaning that things like your phone will sit in them away from the waist band of the harness.
